Hyatt Centric Montevideo

The hotel feels like an urban resort, with a gym and a warm pool that's wonderful for relaxing, though perhaps too warm for serious lap swimming. Its central Pocitos location puts you near cafes, restaurants, a chocolatier, laundry services and the lovely rambla promenade. It isn't in the old city, so taxis or Ubers are useful for getting to the old city center and other parts of town. The hotel has several places to eat and drink: the main restaurant, deli/cafe, metropolitan bar and whiskey room, plus event spaces. I enjoyed the quality and friendly, attentive service at each. Locals often came by the deli for coffee or a meal, or the restaurant for a drink or dinner. The thoughtful design and quality construction give the place its own character. Custom hardware, hardwood and marble floors all stood out, and it didn't feel generic or chain-like. The rooms were comfortable, quiet and dark, which made for deep rest. Everyone on staff impressed me, from the front desk and waiters to the room attendants and doormen. They were friendly, thoughtful and effective, so the visit ran smoothly. When I asked about rental cars, Alexi suggested having one delivered to the hotel. That made my side trip to Punta effortless, and the fee was lower than competitors. I also had to change my departure date, and the front desk found a way for me to keep my room even though the hotel was sold out. My room was always cleaned carefully, and I enjoyed my meals at the restaurant, deli and through room service. I had a wonderful stay, look forward to returning, and have added this to my handful of favorite Hyatt hotels. It's an exceptional Hyatt, perhaps stretching the limits of the ‘centric’ brand, maybe even feeling a bit unbound.

Being right across the street from the beach made this hotel perfect for me. The neighborhood is really cute, and there are so many restaurants around that the choices feel endless.

The location and views were perfect. At check-in, the staff were great and even helped me book my ferry to Buenos Aires. Breakfast was decent, though it could be better.

I'll return. The room, food, shared spaces, staff and location were all excellent, and the views across Pocitos were great too. The bar, pool and gym were great, and the staff helped me arrange a rental car.
