Increíble apartamento en Casapueblo, Punta Ballena

The ocean facing balcony, architecture, views, and comfortable bed were the highlights for me. The downsides were a room without basics like a kettle, and an old hotel that needs some upkeep. The staff didn't feel very welcoming or helpful, and, as other reviews have mentioned, seemed reluctant to speak English with international guests. Sometimes they walked away or ignored us when we spoke English. There was a $100 USD deposit due on arrival, payable only by credit card or cash. Other hotels in Uruguay haven't asked me for this, just kept my card details on file. The wristband was uncomfortable, and you weren't allowed to take it off during your stay. Even things like the museum and car parking cost extra.

The view was great, but after this experience, I wouldn't return. I spent days researching which room would fit our family's needs, then reserved and paid a lot for a cozy room with a living area, more couches, and safe space for our two-year-old to play. My wife and I had broken a foot and a hand the year before, so I specifically chose a room with few stairs. Only a week before the trip, I found out, after calling, that casapueblo had changed our room. The apartment they gave us had several steep staircases just to reach it and more inside, plus a balcony with bars wide enough for our child to try to throw himself through. He did try. With my hand recently broken, I had to carry him almost everywhere. We spent the whole stay anxious, or confined to an unsuitable space. It felt unacceptable that, after I carefully chose and reserved a particular room, they put us in another one. I believe they ignored our choice because they wanted to give our room to another, larger family. If you're booking, be aware they may put you in whichever room they want.

The architecture was incredible, and the view was even more stunning. The rooms were nice, and the food was okay, though it could be better. The whole place felt like a miracle. 😍

The sunsets, food, and people were incredible, and the whole experience was unique. It's a must visit if you're in Uruguay. Reception service could improve a lot.
