The hotel has good facilities, and aside from one incident I had no other problems with the stay. I was given two towels, one large and one small for showering, and there was free drinking water and hot water. The kitchen was available, though there was no salt, oil, or other things to use, and tea bags weren't out during the day, only at breakfast. Breakfast was generous, with cheese, ham, and traditional non bread. It wasn't fancy, but it was better than I expected and matched a photo another commenter had posted. They also let me leave my luggage until evening. The problem happened at 10 pm, just before bed. A staff member knocked and asked me to move because I was the only person in my four-bed dorm. I'd booked that room on booking.com and checked in one afternoon in November as usual. There had been no staff at the hostel, so I had to call, which seems normal in Uzbekistan. A woman came after the call and assigned me a bed in the four-bed dorm I'd booked. Everything was fine until that late-night request. They wanted me to move into a twin room where another man was already staying. I could tell because there was a bag in the room. I said no: we weren't a couple, and I didn't want to sleep close to someone I didn't know. I told the staff the other man could move to my room if needed, since I'd booked a four-bed dorm and anyone could stay there. I hadn't booked a two-bed dorm. The staff moved the beds farther apart and asked me again. Tired of arguing through a translation app, I agreed, but I was unhappy about it. I'm sad that the staff didn't consider my comfort and put their own convenience first. Managing the beds and rooms should be the hotel managers' responsibility, not the guests'. It was unreasonable to make me move just because nobody else was in the four-bed room, and it made the stay stressful. My roommate, an Uzbek man, played music and videos loudly on his phone late at night, but I don't blame the hotel for that.

The upper room has a balcony with a spectacular view of the city walls, and the rooms are comfortable and air-conditioned. Breakfast is included and very tasty. You can get laundry done for $5, and the staff are reachable on WhatsApp. The only nuisance was the peacock singing early in the morning.

Even with lots of backpackers staying there, the guest house has a really peaceful feel. It's clean and well managed, and reaching the historic sites in old Khiva takes only about a three-minute walk. I also loved having breakfast in the shared dining room, which is set up in a traditional style. Our room was spotless, had AC, and came with its own bathroom.

The owners were really friendly and let us check in early. Breakfast was tasty and filling, and the guesthouse is right beside the south gate, making all the main sights in the walled city easy to reach on foot. I'd happily stay here again.

At Deshom Kala Guest House, the hosts were the part that stood out most. They were so friendly and helpful, spoke English fluently, and treated me like family, which made the stay feel personal and comfortable. The rooms were spotless, the kitchen was a nice facility, and breakfast was delicious. It was also convenient for the railway station and major sights such as Ichan Qala. Deshom Kala Guest House exceeded my expectations and has both private rooms and hostel options, so it works for solo travelers or groups. Highly recommended!
