Hotel UMAR

The staff welcomed us so warmly and made us feel at home. Our room was comfortable and spotless, and the location was incredibly convenient. We had a wonderful stay at this charming family-owned hotel and highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area.

We came as a family of six and only wish we'd stayed longer. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, and spoke English too. Rooms were lovely, clean, and a good size, with excellent WIFI. Breakfast was just right, with plenty of fresh fruit, cakes, honey and jam, cold meats, savoury warm milky porridge, and eggs cooked three ways, all served beautifully. It's a lovely family-run hotel, a short walk from Itchan Kala, the historic walled city and UNESCO heritage site. The train station for Bhukara is also a short walk away, and restaurants and a shopping mall are just minutes away. I'd absolutely recommend booking here when you visit Khiva.

We only ended up here because we missed our train, but we were lucky to stay. The staff were super nice and helpful, and even let us extend checkout. The rooms are big enough, and the old city is about an eight-minute taxi ride away, with taxis still cheap. I definitely recommend it.

The location by the station suited me far better than staying in the old city, where the steady stream of tourists, stalls, and sellers can make things less pleasant. Near the station I found several local restaurants, often with no other tourists, serving more authentic food at prices in line with the rest of the country. There's also a large new shopping centre with many things you can't find in the old city. The hotel itself is beautiful and elegant, just steps from the train station, with every comfort. Breakfast was excellent and plentiful. The reception staff were available day or night and ready to help with anything. Definitely recommended.
