The location is great, but that's the main plus. The common areas are dusty. The rooms are clean, though not immaculate, and the sheets and pillows had stains. There was no air conditioner in the room.

The main historical sights are within walking distance, and there are small shops nearby. There's also an antiques museum and shop with all kinds of curiosities, including household objects, clothing, and fabrics. Inside, a green courtyard makes a lovely haven in Samarkand. Our room and bathroom were pristine, breakfast was a delightful local meal, and the hospitality is memorable. I understood the place was biker friendly too, with some limited parking behind the gate, so ask ahead.

I was stranded outside after arriving in Samarkand just after 1 a.m. I’d booked only a few days earlier and had messaged the hotel to check whether a late check-in was possible. Two days later, the owner said he’d wait and I wouldn’t need to ring the bell. But nobody was there. My messages and two or three calls went unanswered, and ringing the bell didn’t bring anyone to the door. The hotel is on narrow, unlit streets, which felt frightening at night. I didn’t know where to go, and nearby hotels I tried knocking at also didn’t answer. I only saw the old, rusty entrance, so I can’t say what the inside is like. This ruined my first visit to Samarkand. The owner could have told me that checking in late would be a problem, so I could have booked somewhere else. He never apologized or explained why he didn’t keep his promise. It was a horrible experience I hope never to repeat. I’d avoid this place.

The room was simple, with wooden decor, and felt worth the price for a private room. There’s some green space, and it’s about a five-minute walk from Registan Square, with mosques and shops nearby. The family who runs the hotel were very friendly and helpful, and sometimes offered tea, biscuits and fruit for free. I arrived before check-in on the first day, but they still served me breakfast and made me feel welcome. Breakfast was legendary, with fruit, eggs, tea, pudding, traditional milk and cake, sujuk, cheese and traditional bread. It was filling and nutritious. I had a great stay and would definitely recommend it, 10/10.

This is local-style accommodation, not a luxury hotel, and the prices are very reasonable. The rooms and common areas were quiet and pleasant day and night, with free tea always available. Upstairs there’s a big Uzbek-style space where you can relax during the day or spend time with other guests. Breakfast is delicious and homemade, served in a lovely setting with lots of trees and birds chirping. The owners are warm and pleasant, and the staff are kind, around all day and ready to help. It’s in the old part of the city, close to Registan, Bibi Khanum and several restaurants. If I return to Samarkand, I’ll stay here again.
