Old Town Hotel

A quiet, clean place with very attentive staff and excellent service. Great value, and very close to Samarkand's main tourist attractions.

The room was decent, but the bathroom leaked. I paid $101.50 cents for two nights, and to me the room was worth less than $25. I chose this hotel or guest house because of its 9.0 rating, but I don't understand how it got that score. Finding it was frustrating. The reservation email and sign say the name is "SAM OLD TOWN," not Old Town Samarkand. The phone number on the email and the sign doesn't work, and there are at least 20 places with "old town" in their names. The old lady running the place was rude, and there was no receptionist at any time. The only things she said were "Breakfast 9-10," pay in dollars, and "key." She gave me two keys, one for the room and one for locking and unlocking the building. Breakfast was terrible, and she didn't stick to the time she'd given. She knocked on the window at 8:30 and said breakfast. There was no choice because it had already been prepared: a cold fried egg cooked hours earlier, no juice, and no bread. For coffee, tea, or water, you had to make it yourself. Stay away from this hotel or guest house.

We stayed here twice and enjoyed both visits, and we'd gladly come again. The rooms are spacious and clean, and the price was decent. The ladies who run this small family hotel are very kind. One even brought us watermelon whenever we were sitting in the courtyard, a nice place to sit during the hot part of the day. They also provide free water, tea, and coffee.

We had a great stay at the Old Town Samarkand. The place was very clean, and the hosts or owners were kind and accommodating. I'd definitely come back.
