A great hotel to have a nice rest before long walks around the city. Hotel "Retro Registan Hotel" is located in Samarkand. This hotel is located within walking distance from the city center, next to secondary school No. 26. The street where the hotel is located was previously called Bukharskaya.

Our double room was about 20 square metres and seemed newly added, with fresh decor and amenities. Glass and shaded areas made it feel bright during the day, just as in the photos. The hotel, formerly called Hotel El Emir, is well kept and clean, and only around a 10-minute walk from Registon Square in Samarkand’s old city. We stayed three nights and got a good Booking.com deal. Staff were friendly and helpful, though only one person at reception spoke English. Housekeeping came just once during our stay and didn’t clean when we asked. Breakfast is a buffet for an extra Usz 40,000 per person per day if it isn’t part of your room package. For the price, it was a very good stay.

After a long day, finding the place was a frustrating start. Taxi drivers didn’t know Retro Hotel, and nobody answered when we called the listed number. It’s down a back alley and has no sign, though it’s actually called El Emir Hotel. The room layout was odd, with an inner wall blocking one bed’s view of the TV, and the WiFi kept cutting out. The hotel felt a little run down, and we had no electricity on our last day. That made an already difficult vacation moment worse.

The staff were warm and helpful, and breakfast was great with excellent service. It’s a lovely place in the heart of Samarkand, close enough to walk to all the sights. I’d happily stay here again. :)
