Thanh Mai Hotel Chau Doc

The downstairs Karaoke was a surprise, and definitely not a welcome one. There are several other aging hotels within walking distance that might be worth a stay. This one isn’t. Even without the annoying Karaoke, it’s poor value at 300.

It’s a budget hotel that allows pets, and the location is good, just a few steps from the Chau Doc market. The room was okay for the low price. Staff were friendly, though not professional, which I wouldn’t expect from a local budget hotel.

I rarely give advice, but this is an exception: don’t go there. The room was dirty and nothing worked, and the staff were unfriendly, with not even a hello when I arrived. On top of that, the family or staff shouted in the corridor until 3 in the morning, even after I’d asked them about ten times to let me sleep. I went to bed at 21h and only slept four hours. Go somewhere else.

The only good thing is the central location near the market. The woman I think was the owner was unfriendly and unwelcoming, and the receptionist wasn’t helpful at all and spoke very little English. The room wasn’t very clean, and the Wi-Fi was very slow. You can find better places in town for the same price.
