Crazy House

Go early if you can. We arrived at 08:40, just after opening, and it was quiet. With so many very narrow bridges high above the ground, I wouldn’t have wanted to squeeze past other people up there. The grounds are enormous, a maze of rooms, walkways and bridges that could easily keep you exploring for more than an hour. Videos I’d watched beforehand hadn’t prepared me for it. I’d still suggest a visit if you’re scared of heights, but you might want to skip the higher outdoor bridges between the structures. A place like this could probably only exist in Vietnam, where building and safety rules are much more relaxed than in more developed countries.

The views over the city are amazing, so it’s worth making your way up to the viewpoints. I’m terrified of heights, and those skinny bridges had me gripping the stairs and railings, but the place felt safe and I didn’t think there was a real chance of falling. There are also plenty of spots downstairs to sit, have a drink or an ice cream, and take it all in. Crazy House is such a fun, unusual place. Moving between the different buildings on those twisty paths feels like wandering through little worlds, and the architecture is unlike anything else I’ve seen. If you’re in Da Lat, don’t miss it.

Staying there let us explore after hours, which made the experience feel completely different. I’m really glad we booked a room, though it was compact and built more for effect than comfort. It had what we needed, but there’s no fridge, air conditioning, or lift to the upper floors. The staff were wonderful, friendly and helpful, and strong enough to haul our bags up and down four flights of stairs. There are lots of places to eat just a few minutes away. If you can’t stay, definitely go visit.

This was such a fun thing to do in Da Lat today. Some parts are really high, so it might be a bit much if you’re scared of heights, but I still thought it was worth it. A unique, cool experience, and I found the price reasonable. Would highly recommend.
