Our group had booked three rooms for eight people on the 19th, 20th, and 21st at Moc Lu Quan Da Lat. The owner’s attitude was fairly good at first. Then our plans changed and we decided to leave at 10:30 PM instead of 7 AM, so we’d reach Da Lat early. We contacted the homestay a week ahead to ask about checking in early. We wanted to rest a little, leave our things, and go sightseeing. If there was a small charge, we were prepared to pay it. At first I called it early check-in because that’s what it had always been called, but my message clearly said we only wanted to leave our luggage and wouldn’t stay overnight. We said we’d pay the fees if we did stay. I mentioned six people because I was planning to rent motorbikes at the homestay and wanted to be clear from the start. They said we’d have to pay for an extra day, another 900k for the three rooms. Since only six of us would arrive first, I asked if we could use one room for 330k to leave our bags and head out. They refused, even after we explained we weren’t staying overnight, and demanded an extra 660k for six people. That felt like too much just to store luggage. When I asked for the deposit back because we couldn’t agree on what we needed, I got replies like, “The change is from your side, not from Moc’s,” and, “You continue as per the confirmed agreement.” I didn’t want to lose the 900k or spoil the trip with my friends, so I gave in and hoped the owner might charge for one room instead of two. The homestay is legally in the right, and if I’m wrong about that, I’ll accept the 900k VND loss. We offered to return the deposit, but because of our oversight, we accepted losing it. The homestay ignored me until I said I might post about it on social media. Then I got a reply and a phone call in a very challenging, supposedly “service-oriented” manner. I don’t like complaining about people, but I’ve never had this happen before. Other places have been happy to hold our things, sometimes for free if no one stayed the night before. Phu made it clear he only left his belongings there and didn’t stay until check-in time. He’s been here many times, and this was the first time he’d had to pay extra just to leave his things. Okay, I’m fine. I’m posting this because the homestay’s attitude changed after the deposit was paid, and that wasn’t acceptable. 900K VND isn’t a huge amount, but it was enough to show me this kind of “service” behavior. I work in the service industry too, and I hope homestays won’t say “Service is about serving” if they don’t understand what that means. I’ll take any criticism, but please ask about luggage storage before booking. I’m sharing this so others can learn from my experience booking in Da Lat. Help me share! 😡😡😡😡

We spent one of our three days sorting out room problems, and the service and attitude were extremely bad. The first room didn’t look like the pictures, the water was leaking, and there was no hot water. We told the owner, but a whole day went by without a technician coming to fix anything. Then we were told we’d have to pay more to move rooms. The replacement room hadn’t been cleaned for a long time and smelled musty.

For two people, it’s about 400,000 VND a day, with another 450,000 VND charged for three people. It’s guesthouse-style accommodation with nice interiors and a dining space. They also have snacks and instant noodles.

The host was friendly and helpful with requests. The room itself was basic but airy.

One of Da Lat’s more distinctive homestays. The style is simple, but the atmosphere feels cozy, and that earns it five stars from me.
