VietNam House Hostel

I arrived late with a four-night booking, and they kept my passport. The room’s condition was astonishingly dirty. The booking photos showed white walls that looked decent, but the walls were badly stained. There was no bathroom sink, and someone’s used toothbrush, towel, and half-used shampoo were already there. The shower barely drained, and the table had dirty stains. I avoided the pillow and blanket. The desk girl said I had to pay for all four nights. I showed her the booking photos and the listed features, like a fridge, stove, kettle, and TV, that weren’t in the room, though I didn’t need them. It was the principle of it. She wouldn’t explain why those items were listed or address how different the room was. She kept saying they’d turned away lots of people to give me the room, but there was hardly anyone there.

The low price may not make up for it. The beds are rock hard, there are no curtains, and the thin windows and walls mean you can hear everything everyone else is doing throughout the hostel. There’s no internal laundry service, and my room smelled like old toilets.

It’s clean, safe, and cheap, and the staff are super friendly. The hostel is close to the city center and rents scooters. Since it’s away from the city, it’s easy for inexperienced riders to get out and ride around.

The owner said everyone else was out when I arrived around 2 pm, and assured me the hostel was full. When I came back and looked around, there was nobody there, and the room was absolutely filthy. It was a terribly dirty place. I changed hostels, but the owner kept my passport and charged me for a full night. Crooked and dishonest, avoid it at all costs.
