House Backpackers

A reply to Elaine Cheung's negative feedback, and a note to everyone reading it: her account doesn't match what happened at House Backpackers. Our usual process is to keep guests' passports until departure so we can complete the temporary residence declaration and registration required by city policy. We explained this at check-in, as we do for other guests. Elaine still wanted her passports back, so we did our best to return them on the day she arrived and completed the paperwork using copies instead of the originals, which was not easy. We don't think that was rude. The claim that we were flirting at the reception desk is the funniest part of her feedback, since that simply couldn't happen there. Her booking was for a double room for 2 nights. On the planned departure date, she asked to extend her stay, but we were fully booked and couldn't accommodate her. We were very sorry for the inconvenience and offered to recommend other hostels nearby, but she refused our help. In feedback on another website, she said she moved elsewhere because our hostel wasn't nice at all. Is that the truth, Elaine? At checkout, she also tried to pay less for the airport pick-up service, even though she'd agreed to the price by email. We couldn't offer the lower price she wanted. We don't want an argument with our guests, but we will speak up and tell the truth when claims are excessive. Please don't judge someone for being unable to meet those demands. The rooms are generally okay, and the receptionist is somewhat friendly. It's a decent place, I guess you get what you pay for. I probably wouldn't stay again, though it won't hurt if you do.
