The beach is just a five-minute walk away, with plenty of restaurants nearby. I stayed for over a month and had a great experience. It’s very quiet day and night, and the Wi-Fi was more than fast enough for what I needed. The owner was kind and helped me sort out any issues. For the price, it’s hard to beat.

I stayed seven nights after booking on Agoda. Whether I’d recommend it depends on what you’re after. If you want to be close to My Khe beach and in the middle of a busy area, that’s the main appeal. There are lots of restaurants and spas nearby, but it’s loud and touristy, with karaoke and music at night that sound like they’re right outside the window. The location is also close to the beach, as noted, but the view faces the rooms of the hotel next door. I couldn’t leave the windows open without giving people a view inside, so the privacy curtains had to stay shut. The room was spacious and clean, with a small fridge, kettle, and TV. I never used the TV, so can’t comment on it. The bed, pillows, and down comforter were comfortable. The bathroom was a good size, with the sink near the door, and the shower had hot water and good pressure. Soap and shampoo were provided. There’s an elevator, which was handy with luggage. The AC was unpredictable: sometimes it worked, and sometimes it shut off by itself. There wasn’t anyone at reception, so I had to message the host through WhatsApp or Agoda if I needed something. I got one roll of toilet paper for the whole seven-day stay. When I asked for more, an extra roll was left lying on the dirty floor outside my door, with no knock or delivery. There was no drinking water provided either, not even the one or two bottles you’d usually expect. Someone entered my room without my asking for cleaning or towels. When I asked who’d been in, the host said she came to clean and leave towels. I did get towels, but the room definitely hadn’t been cleaned. The host tried to explain it as a cultural difference, but lying is frowned on everywhere. Just be honest and people can understand. Nobody likes being lied to. The lobby was a mess, with a couch that had no cushion covers and random shoes, bags, backpacks, and other belongings scattered around. It didn’t feel like a professional hotel lobby. Wi-Fi was very weak on the second and third floors, and the host acknowledged it couldn’t support Zoom. With so many digital nomads, working Wi-Fi on every floor should be standard. I had to work in the lobby, which was far from ideal, until the Wi-Fi could be “fixed.” The third-floor router wasn’t even plugged in. The host was upset that I worked in the lobby, even though she had recommended it because the working router was on the first floor. I didn’t want to work there either. I’d much rather have worked privately in my own room. The host did respond, but her manners were rude, dishonest, and unfriendly. I wouldn’t return. I’d only recommend staying if you want to be amid the activity and near My Khe beach. There are plenty of other options otherwise. Three stars is generous.

The first-floor room smelled of mold, and the alley had trash and rats. It was okay for a one-night stay.

I ended up extending my stay to four days. Restaurants are close, either through the alley or from the main street, and the internet and TV both worked. The hot water was the best I’d had in Vietnam. The spot is quiet behind some big hotels, so the beach is only a three-minute walk away and you don’t hear traffic.

The staff were so friendly. One day they left a sweet note and fresh grapefruit in our room, which was really nice. The accommodation was lovely, clean, and comfortable, with great showers for both temperature and pressure, and the location was really good. The downside was the building site right next door, plus another one very close out front. It wasn’t hugely problematic, but the banging and drilling started around 6:45-7 a.m. We’d been told it usually started at 8, but that wasn’t our experience. If you’re hoping for a relaxing lie-in, the noise will likely wake you.
