Tay Bac Hotel

Our group stayed at Tay Bac Hotel, and the room was awful. It smelled bad and had mould. The towels were very old and dirty, and the bedsheet had stains. We asked them to replace it with a new one, but they didn’t. The air conditioner ran, but it didn’t cool enough and seemed faulty too. We asked to change rooms, but nothing was done.

We had a fabulous time everywhere else in Vietnam, so this hotel was a rude shock. The customer service was among the worst I’ve experienced. If you’re already staying there, don’t offer feedback or suggestions. Staff take it personally and become vengeful. Stay away if you can.

The rooms were clean again when I stayed in January 2026. The bed was comfortable, there was plenty of hot water, and the AC worked well. At the rear of the building, the windows did a good job blocking noise. Reception happily showed me different rooms until I found a quieter one, and someone even offered to carry my bags, which can be rare on Ha Bong. Breakfast was the letdown. Food was left uncovered with windows open, and flies were on the salad. Staff hadn’t switched on the warmers for many dishes, so the chicken and vegetables in oyster sauce were cold and inedible. The stuffed wontons seemed like they might be from the previous day, and the bread was stale or hard too. Coffee was extremely bitter, as if the pot hadn’t been cleaned in a while. The tables were kept clean, though. It’s an okay hotel, but I’d skip breakfast even if it’s included.

They had no milk for coffee at breakfast, just gruel and cold fried eggs. When we complained, someone came to our room and threatened to fine us for supposedly dirtying their “brand new towels.” I’ve stayed in hotels all over the world and never had that happen. The breakfast buffet was a joke. Not Tay Bac, it should be called Stay Back. Disgusting place, avoid it.
