The biggest problem was the state of Ha Long Bay. Plastic bags, bottles, and Styrofoam were scattered everywhere, with some spots looking like a landfill. We chose not to swim because of it, and I wouldn't want to stay aboard for more than a day. The cabins and ship have a distinctive, elegant feel, with big windows and a huge bed. The staff were helpful and attentive. Lunch, a carefully made Vietnamese seafood menu, was excellent. Dinner in the Western style was much weaker, so they should stick to Vietnamese specialties. Breakfast is easy to skip; you won't miss anything.

We'd happily stay longer than one night. Emperor Cruises was a great getaway from Hanoi, with the boutique feel and VIP treatment we wanted. The service was impeccable all the way through. In Vietnam, not every place called 5-star really delivers, but this one did.

The boat itself was excellent, the food was fantastic, and the activities were a lot of fun. Karen, Chi, Duy, Will and the chef Nam gave us outstanding service. We totally recommend this boat if you're after an incredible Ha Long bay experience.

I only had time for the 2-day, 1-night Emperor Cruise, though I was wishing I'd booked longer by the end. Even arranging it with Ms. Phương had me excited. The ship felt like a floating boutique hotel, with elegant, roomy suites and floor-to-ceiling windows looking out at the limestone karsts. The crew were warm and attentive, and the spa, turndown service, and thoughtful touches made it feel 5-star. We watched both sunset and sunrise, and there was plenty to do: kayaking in quiet bays, visiting hidden caves, cooking classes, and lots of entertainment. The meals were generous and beautifully prepared. Emperor's care with the details puts it among the best Ha Long Bay cruises for me. Next time I'll do 3 days and 2 nights. Thanks, Ms. Phương, for arranging a trip I won't forget.
