Sunland Halong Hotel and Restaurant

The reception staff were flawless, spoke incredible English, and were very informative. Breakfast came with the price and we enjoyed it for our two mornings, though it was the same each day and could get tedious on a longer stay. Our room was massive, with two very comfortable king-size beds, lots of storage and surface space, and two cozy seats. The en-suite was a decent size, and the shower had three settings and stayed at a great temperature. The hotel is about a 20-minute walk from both town and the port, with very good restaurants on either side. The pool wasn't in use, which was a minor issue. For the price, I have no other complaints and would recommend it.

We had a good stay and were surprised by the reviews. Our junior suite had a city view and a spacious double balcony. The room was large, with a big comfortable bed, fridge, and good WiFi. The bathroom was one of the best we've had in SEA, with strong shower pressure and hot water the whole time. Towels were changed daily and the room was cleaned. Breakfast was quite bad, and they could improve it with things like pancakes, cereal, sandwiches, or yogurt. The area was very quiet, with few places to eat within a 10-minute walk, though that's not the hotel's fault. In the early hours it got quite loud, sounding like women shouting. We thought it was a one-off, but have seen it mentioned in other reviews. They booked us a boat tour, which was very helpful, and were always quick to answer on WhatsApp.

We booked a room advertised “with a patio,” but there was no patio. The manager said the building plan doesn't allow for a balcony or patio, so don't advertise one. The pool was green, the toilet was broken, and there were only two towels for four people. We left, and at least the reception staff promptly refunded us. This was the worst hotel we've ever seen and a shame for our holiday in Vietnam. Any positive review has to be fake.

It's a clean hotel with a very basic breakfast, a bit out of town in what's called a ghost town, with lots of empty buildings. The night market is close, and Papa's barbecue German restaurant is a five-minute walk away. Great service, affordable prices, and big portions there.
