Catba Sunrise Hotel

I felt very uncomfortable here. During three weeks in Vietnam, staying in ten different places, this was the only accommodation where I felt that way. I would have left if I hadn’t been there for just two nights. Their confident, outright lies in response to customer feedback also left me thinking the rating might be artificially inflated by fake reviews. The room and bedding were dirty, and there was a damp, moldy smell. I think the bathroom’s lack of ventilation may have caused it. There was almost no soundproofing, so I could hear the corridor, other floors, and street noise. The mattress was very firm and badly affected my sleep. The hot water ran out after a few minutes. On the second day, I was startled by a sizeable cockroach in my slippers. An older man who didn’t speak English removed it. At checkout, I asked whether they would offer any compensation for the awful incident. I’d prepaid the room by card through Agoda two days earlier, and the receptionist confirmed this at check-in. The receptionist apologized and offered to waive the charge for 1kg of laundry, or 40k vnd. I’d already written a review on Agoda, where they replied with what I believe were blatant lies, so I’m sharing my experience here too. Their response said, “We seriously doubt this, as our hotel is completely cockroach-free. Furthermore, you intentionally refused to pay for the room and other services upon check-out. We only offered to waive a small portion of the charge, which caused your dissatisfaction.” I attached a photo of the roach so people can see it and decide for themselves. They had already confirmed the room was prepaid at check-in, so the claim that I refused to pay is wild. They offered not to charge me for laundry when I asked about compensation. My dissatisfaction came from all the negative experiences I described, and would have been the same with or without that offer. I drafted my review right after the cockroach incident, before checking out.
