You have around 5 months from this date to book before it’s no longer “ok” enough to stay. On arrival the hotel seemed decent, and it wasn’t bad at all because it was brand new. The rooms were clean and spacious, but once you start using them, you see how bad things are. There are no shower curtains, so every shower leaves the whole bathroom soaked and you have to walk through a puddle. They won’t clean that puddle. We stayed 4 nights and had the room cleaned once, only after calling 3 times. The excuses were that it was Sunday and not many people were working, so there was no time to clean, and that someone was sick so they couldn’t clean. Those are insanely bad excuses for not providing the service I paid for. They didn’t leave new towels, so we had to call down for them, and we’d used our towels to wipe the floor. They didn’t replace the water that’s supposed to be free because of the staff shortage, then had the audacity to charge us for something we didn’t use. Breakfast was decent, but they don’t provide water or juice, which is also insane. The good points were the friendly, helpful reception desk and the fact that the hotel is new. Literally everything else was bad. Not even a joke.

I paid 1.1 million VND for a room with no window, and it wasn’t worth the money. The hotel is brand new, but the decor looks like it dates back to the 20th century. Construction continued on Saturday and Sunday, and the air conditioner was so noisy that I couldn’t sleep well. I’d booked 3 nights but checked out the next day.

My baby loved the bathtub and living room and felt much more comfortable there. My man was happy with the morning coffee, so we bought 2 kilos as gifts for friends. The breakfast was wonderful every morning, the staff were enthusiastic, and we had no complaints about cleanliness or the noise from construction outside. For a 3-star hotel, it was great. The location is great too, a short walk to the opera house and other main foodie tour spots in Hai Phong city center. If you want to take the bus to Do Son beach, Mernva won’t disappoint. In summer you can walk to the nearby outdoor navy swimming pool, which is fun for a family day out. There’s a meeting room on the 9th floor with a nice balcony and a great city view. We’ll definitely book here again when we return to Hai Phong city. Strongly recommend it to others.
