Aloha Hotel

I’m leaving Hanoi tomorrow, and I almost never post a bad review. This one’s written right after I walked into room 506, because I just wanted to fast-forward to checkout. The room looked neglected: bits of debris on the floor, what seemed like cigarette ash on the bathroom fixtures, a crumpled bed cover, and Wi-Fi that wasn’t working properly. I felt bad putting my luggage down, and I usually wouldn’t get onto a bed without showering first, but it already seemed dirty anyway. Cleanliness shouldn’t be something a two-star hotel lets slide. I arrived at 1 PM and asked the man with a tattoo on his left chest about checking in early. He used Google Translate because he didn’t speak English and said it would cost an extra 40,000 VND, otherwise I’d have to wait until 2 PM. I assumed they might be getting the room ready. A young woman did let me check in half an hour early, though, so thanks to her. I also asked her to move me to a non-smoking room. She said guests weren’t allowed to smoke in the rooms, but there was an ashtray on the table. The apologies in other reviews feel like a formality, with no real improvement or action. Even my motel in Ninh Binh was much better than this “Hotel.” I can’t recommend this place.
