After a typhoon, several rooms flooded. One person in our group opened her door to what looked like a swimming pool. Staff brushed it off and moved her into a room another member of our group had already left because of its mould and awful smell. The bathrooms were already in terrible shape: black mould in the grout and on walls, dark stains in tubs and showers, and toilets that leaked when flushed. There were floor drains behind the toilets, which made it seem the hotel knew about the leaks. Sewage also came into some bathrooms, leaving a lasting smell of faeces in the rooms. When we tried to raise room problems, reception staff were cold and repeatedly lied to us. Then there was the hotel chairman, who was a member of the Vietnamese government. On Thursday, October 2, 2025, at 1:30 am, another girl from our group and I went downstairs after he had kept guests awake with karaoke late on a weekday. He was extremely drunk and singing Vietnamese traditional music terribly. When we politely asked him to stop, he laughed at us. We considered calling the police without knowing who he was, and were met with more laughter and threats of physical violence. We were told several times to “sit down and enjoy the show.” I don't know how to describe what my friends and I went through at Capital Garden Hotel. Avoid government owned hotels in Vietnam, and don't stay at Capital Garden Hotel.

There was a very large car park, with expensive cars such as a Rolls Royce Phantom, Maserati, Range Rover, and Benz S class parked outside. With so few people around the hotel, it gave me the impression that the owner might be a wealthy car dealer, a Don, or a local politician. The hotel was well maintained, with good rooms and nicely furnished bathrooms. Still, just one lift for such a big hotel was painful. Capital Garden Hotel is at 4 Hoang Ngoc Phach Street in Hanoi's Dong Da District, near the National Cinema Center (NCC). It's about a 15-minute drive from the city center and 30 minutes from Noi Bai International Airport. The US Embassy is a 12-minute walk away, with Vincom Center Nguyen Chi Thanh and cultural sites like the Hanoi Opera House also accessible. It has around 80 rooms, a bureau de change, and an elevator, and works for business or leisure stays in a central Hanoi location.

The loud neighbors were my main problem. It happened almost every night, and the door did nothing to block the noise, so bring earplugs. The guests were playing music with their door open. It wasn't really the hotel's fault, but reporting it was difficult because one staff member didn't speak English and took a while to understand. He came up to my floor, and the noise finally stopped at 11:30 pm. I stayed a week and the experience was just okay, maybe 3.5 stars. The staff were kind, though some didn't speak English. Breakfast was all-you-can-eat, with pho each day, which I thought was decent, but after two days the meals felt repetitive.

I’d seen all the negative reviews before arriving, so I was surprised by how much better things were. The hotel has been renovated, the rooms were clean, and the service was friendly and really helpful. Breakfast was good too. Thanks to the staff, and I hope to come back.

The air conditioning worked well, and the rooms were clean. Breakfast buffet was good.
