The location was hard to beat, and the staff were warm and welcoming. The receptionist greeted our taxi and helped with the luggage, and Okami checked us in efficiently and showed us to our rooms. The next morning, he walked us to the restaurant down the street since the hotel has no restaurant of its own. That’s about all I can praise. There was a bad sewer smell from the street that seeped into the lobby. My room had no TV or refrigerator, just a desk without a chair. A strange window faced a concrete wall five feet away, had no curtain, and let light flood into the room at different times of night. The hotel is old and tired, and the guest bathroom in the spa was gross. The staff were lovely, but that didn’t make up for the hotel. It’s definitely not four-star, and I wouldn’t give the property even two stars. I’d expected something more like the Indochine hotel in Hue, which is amazing.

The people and service were amazing, and the hotel is right in the heart of the Old Quarter. The staff were lovely and helpful, even carrying our light bags when we could have managed them ourselves. There’s no breakfast room on site, so they took us to a nearby restaurant. Breakfast was good, especially the tasty eggs made to order. The rest of the buffet may depend on your tastes. We had two issues with the room. Water leaked from the shower onto the room floor, so the sealing needs work. Also, our window faced a ventilation shaft and the room stayed completely dark even in daytime. Sometimes a light came on in the middle of the night, disrupting our sleep and making it hard to tell day from night. Still, it was a good stay. A room with a proper window would have made it even better.

The people here made the stay especially nice. They were professional and so friendly that by the end of my trip they felt like friends I'd made along the way. My single-traveler room was just the right size and was promptly kept up. Breakfast was included each morning at a nearby cafe, and the lobby laundry service was really convenient: I could head out exploring and come back to find my clothes folded and vacuum-sealed in a plastic bag. I’d happily recommend it to solo travelers staying several days in or around Hanoi. I can only speak to the 1-2 person room, since I didn't try the larger ones.

Jimmy was incredibly helpful and arranged my trips to Halong Bay and Hoa Lu Tam coc. Both the trip and scenery were really beautiful. The hotel is in a great spot in the heart of the Old Quarter, and my room was quiet despite being down an alley. Really amazing place.

The street was quiet, which helped with sleep, but the arrival was a letdown. We got there at 8pm and the room still wasn't ready, even though the hotel had checked with us the day before about our arrival time. The sheets were thin and a little damp, and bottled water in the room cost extra, something we hadn't encountered at the other hotels on our Vietnam trip. Breakfast was free, but it was at a place around the corner, where staff walked guests who wanted to go.
