We booked Hotel Yah Hanoi for four nights because it had a spa, but it was broken for three of them. On our last night we did use it, though it felt like a staff bathroom, with a tiny tub and room for maybe two or three people. Getting in and out meant stepping over a high step, with no non-slip mat or handrail. I slipped on the floor steps and hurt my back, and there was no intercom to call reception for help. This was a terrible spa, nowhere near hotel quality. The room door also wouldn't close properly, and the air conditioning didn't work right. We'll never book Hotel Yah Hanoi again. The worst hotel I've ever stayed in.

The rooms are functional, and breakfast is okay. Staff don't all speak English, but Google Translate helps. My first room had a sewage smell in the bathroom that became overwhelming by morning, and at least one cockroach. They eventually moved me, and I had no further problems in the new room. The air conditioning setting, either heat or cool, is controlled for the whole floor, so I had to ask repeatedly to have it switched.

The welcoming spirit of Omotenashi is why I'll stay here for every business trip to Vietnam. It feels friendly and comfortable, like Japan. I usually only see anti-fog drying mirrors in the bathroom and Washlet toilets at hotels in Japan, but this place has them too.

The women's facilities aren't like the ones in the picture. The women's bath is just a tiny tub, which doesn't feel fair. It makes female travellers feel unwelcome.
