The best thing here is the location. I only stayed one night, and the room was clean, tidy and felt safe, so it worked well as a place to sleep. It’s a no-frills hotel, though. Service can be curt, and it doesn’t feel like a four or five star stay. I noticed other guests seemed unhappy about the limited amenities. I’d missed out on a room at pan pacific across the road the day before arriving, but I was glad I moved out.

We really enjoyed Hanoi, but our stays at Legend Westlake were a huge letdown. We checked in for two nights as part of a Trip a Deal, returned for one night, then came back for another night before leaving Hanoi. The beds and pillows in every room were rock hard, and I’d have slept better on the pavement. On our second check-in, the bathroom had a shower over the bath. The poor layout left the whole floor flooded, and climbing out of the high tub onto slippery tile was dangerous. We both ended up bruised. We told reception, but the staff brushed us off. The linens were inadequate, with no top sheets, and the old, worn towels need replacing. There were no bathroom hooks either. The corridors and lobby seemed to have no working air conditioning, so the heat and humidity were very uncomfortable. There’s no in-house dining, and safe places to eat within walking distance are limited. The hotel is well away from Hanoi’s main dining and shopping area. This is honestly one of the worst hotels we’ve stayed in, and we wouldn’t recommend it to anyone visiting Vietnam.

The staff were kind and accommodating, and they looked after our luggage at reception while we went on our Ha Long cruise. There isn’t a dedicated storage room, but our bags were kept securely. We could also order food to the hotel through Grab, which was handy. We checked in, left the next day for the cruise, then checked in again after returning. Both times we were upgraded to spacious apartment-style rooms on the top floor. The rooms had a good layout, a wide open city view and a huge bed. The area near West Lake was peaceful, and our stay was comfortable. The mattress was firm, which is a matter of preference, but worth knowing if you like a softer one. I’d recommend Legend Westlake Hotel and would happily consider returning.

The room was fairly spacious and the location near West Lake was convenient, but a few practical things made the stay less comfortable. The beds were very hard, traffic from the busy nearby road could be heard at night, and the breakfast choices were limited with only average quality. The shower had nowhere proper to put soap or toiletries, and there were very few towel rods. When we asked for extra bottled water, the hotel refused, which felt needlessly inflexible. My rating is 6/10. It’s not a bad stay, though comfort, breakfast and those little service details could be better.

The hotel was clean and well looked after, and getting around from its convenient location was easy. Breakfast was fine, but there wasn’t much to choose from. A decent stay, with some room to improve.
