Park Hyatt Saigon

We’ll definitely be back, though we’re watching how the service develops. After at least 15 business and private stays, Park Hyatt Saigon feels almost like a second home. We love its distinctive character and the high standard it maintains, and hope the team brings back the near-perfect service we experienced in our first few years. Staff are still generally attentive, but lately there have been inconsistencies and less of that proactive 5 Star magic. The location in the heart of District 1 is hard to beat. The colonial architecture gives the historic building a real sense of history, and we can stroll around the Opera House and nearby streets without constantly worrying about Saigon traffic. The suites have a classic, timeless look and are exceptionally well maintained and thoughtfully laid out. Breakfast is consistently high quality, with lots of choice. We also love being able to get away from the city noise and enjoy the quiet atmosphere by the pool.

Sitting on the sidewalk and watching the busy traffic while eating charcoal-grilled banh mi was one of my favorite ways to enjoy Saigon street food. Cơm Tấm, with grilled pork chops and a sunny-side-up egg, is another dish that captures the local flavor. Park Hyatt Saigon feels like a sanctuary in the middle of the city. Its elegant white doors, grand chandeliers, and French colonial architecture are breathtaking. The rooms are carefully detailed, with classic lamps and fresh welcome fruit. Afternoon tea is served with polished silver sets in a calm setting, and feels like an art form. Tan Dinh Church is a uniquely vibrant pink landmark. Its Gothic design and brilliant color give it a romantic, vintage charm, and make it a must-visit for photos.

The manager is hands-on and among the most competent I’ve met, and breakfast is one of the best around. This is a beautiful, well-run hotel with outstanding facilities, and in most comparisons it would get five stars from me. My four-star rating is measured against the best properties in the world, so I’m more critical at this top level. I hope some details have improved since our last stay: the plastic bottles, lack of a pillow menu, and the welcome experience, where the drink was too warm and the welcome gift felt boring. Overall, it’s an outstanding property.

A stay with real contrasts. The staff are genuinely world-class, warm, attentive, and effortlessly professional, while the service and location make up for a lot. Both restaurants are excellent. Still, the historic colonial look now feels dated to me rather than timeless. The rooms and furniture seem to have lost some of their old glory instead of gaining character with age. Park Hyatt is one of only two truly top-end hotel options in Saigon, a surprisingly small choice for such a fast-rising city.
