Rubis Hostel

We spent five nights at Rubis hostel, and it was great value for the money as long as you're okay staying a little away from the daily buzz. It's quiet, away from the old town and citadel, which suited us with the kids, but plan on a short commute each day. There aren't places to eat nearby, so we spent most of our time out. AEON mall was only a 15-minute walk away, though, with lots of activities for kids, a huge supermarket, and a great atmosphere. We probably wouldn't have gone there otherwise. The staff were very kind and helped with everything we needed. Some didn't speak English, but we'd already learned that's common in Vietnam. The beds were comfortable, there was hot water, and the internet reception was good.

The owner and staff went above and beyond to help us find transport to Thakhek, which is especially difficult at this time of year. The boss spent hours asking around and calling different bus operators to find a reliable bus at a reasonable price, then came with us to the nearby Hue South Bus station to make sure we found it and got on the right bus. We really appreciated that. The room was air conditioned, with a very large, comfortable bed. We like firmer mattresses. There was a hot shower, and the area was quiet and not touristy, so nobody bothered us or tried to rip us off. We had a comfortable, enjoyable stay.

Guests can cook downstairs, though there aren't many utensils, and the pots' metal handles heat up very quickly. That's one thing they could improve. Apart from that, we had an excellent stay and really enjoyed being here. The location is excellent and quiet, and the staff are very friendly, always smiling, and happy to help us get around. They speak really good English. This was one of our best stays in all of Vietnam.

It was my first time in Hue, and the people here made me feel very welcome. The room was nice and clean, and the staff were really friendly. Chi at reception was especially helpful and lovely.
