The homemade dinners and the kind, friendly host made our stay memorable. From the patio under the traditional house, you get a lovely view across the rice fields. The Ecohouse sits on the edge of a charming village, about a five-minute walk from the main road, and it’s easy to wander further into the villages from there. You get both a comfortable hotel and a rustic homestay experience in one. I wouldn’t visit Mai Chau without staying here.

The Wi-Fi connected, but there was no internet on the other end, which cost it a star. The mattress was hard but manageable, and the shower was decent for a rural hotel. Rooms are large and private, with strong air conditioning, and there’s covered motorcycle parking. We got a warm welcome and a free breakfast. We only asked for coffee and bread, but they made sure there was plenty, as the photo shows. It’s a little pricey, though that’s understandable in such a touristy spot. There aren’t any signs, so check the Google photos before you arrive to recognize the place.

An 81-year-old granny was weaving scarves on a very old machine, and I bought one of her handmade scarves. Priceless! The place feels authentic, Vietnamese, and vintage. I stopped in for lunch, which was delicious, and the owner brought so much food I couldn’t finish it.

The location is great, and our beds were comfortable. The place was okay to stay in, though it didn’t have the homey feel I’d expect from a homestay. The owner wasn’t very friendly or helpful.

I’ve been back several times over the past few years and have always been impressed. The hosts are welcoming, and the food is excellent. Another very enjoyable stay.
