Teddy 108 Homestay & Cafe - Grand World Phu Quoc

The photos left me feeling deceived, and the hotel felt scary. There was no receptionist and no other guests. I was on the third floor, where there were only two rooms. When I got home, the floor lights were out. There's no elevator, the air conditioning wasn't cold, and the coffee cups were very dirty. The little refrigerator leaked and left my bedroom floor wet.

The room was very small, and we couldn't even fit our suitcase properly. We were on the fourth floor, with no lift, and nobody helped us carry our bags down at checkout. It might work for two people with little luggage, but avoid it if you're travelling with kids.

I booked a room for my family through Agoda, where it was listed as Teddy 108 Homestay & Cafe. When we arrived, the receptionist said the booking wasn't for his actual place, then asked a friend to drive us to the friend's homestay above an empty shop. The room was spacious, but it was a long way from the city centre, in the Grand World area.

This felt like a scam. The owner asked me to pay privately, saying they didn't accept credit cards, even though my card was already linked to Agoda. They threatened to cancel the booking unless I paid within four hours. When I agreed to transfer the money and asked for the BIC code, they said they couldn't provide it and would check. I followed up after hearing nothing, then they ignored me for months. Recently they again threatened to cancel unless I paid within four hours. I got an Agoda agent involved and said I'd pay cash when I arrived, since my card payment was still on hold, but the owner refused. Everything about it pointed to a scam to me. The late cancellation left me scrambling for a last-minute booking at an insane price. Thanks to this property owner. Book at your own risk.
