Phori's House On the Hill

The house is clean and comfortable, with five bedrooms, eight beds in total, and two bathrooms. Hot water is available, but there’s no active heating, so staying more than two days in the cold season can be difficult. You can arrange a campfire indoors or outside, though neither spot is appealing because space is limited. It sits high on a hill, and reaching it means climbing a rough slope on foot, so bring good shoes. Also, as of 2020, local government charged an entry ticket of 30k VND per person for this area. The owner and manager live elsewhere and won’t tell you about the fee in advance, as they don’t seem to care.

I’ve never left a bad review for a provider before. We booked Phori house bamboo foresr, but construction at the original house meant we were moved to Phori house 2. At first it seemed nice, and we loved the concept enough to extend our stay by four nights as soon as we checked in. The place, maid, and kids nearby were things I liked, but the service turned out to be the worst I’ve experienced. The manager’s unwelcoming manner bothered me, though I could have accepted it. How she handled problems was terrible. A frog got into the bathroom twice. The first night, I couldn’t shower or even use the toilet all night. We told the manager the next morning and asked how to stop it happening again. She said it was rare and told the maid, but did nothing else. On another night, we texted her when it happened again. She told us to ask the village children to remove it. They were scared and couldn’t do it. About 30 minutes later, she came by to deliver food and immediately left without dealing with the frog. We asked her to stay and get it out. It took her 30 minutes, even though she’d expected us to handle it ourselves. She left without apologizing or offering any way to keep it from returning. The next day, we bought tape ourselves and, with the maid’s help, sealed a possible hole the frog might have come through. The water was also cut for the whole night without anyone telling us, so once again we couldn’t shower or use the toilet. I won’t return. We don’t pay for this kind of service.

Highly recommend staying in Tả Van - Sapa. There was a booking mix-up at first, but they gave us another good room to make up for it.
