Muong Thanh Grand Phuong Dong Hotel

After travelling through Vietnam, I stayed here for one night. The place was comfortable enough, though the lighting throughout the hotel was a bit dim and gave me a creepy first impression. There was no bellboy on duty when I arrived, so I had to carry my own things.

Vi at the front desk made a real effort to help me as a foreigner in Vinh, with clear communication and great service. Thank you, Vi! The room was tidy and very thoroughly cleaned, and it had everything I needed, even though the hotel may be an older one.

We stopped at Sao Mai restaurant during our drive from north to south. The breakfast was tasty and had plenty of choice, and the staff were attentive when we asked for help. cô Hà was especially great, her service really stood out. I’d happily recommend the restaurant.

Breakfast was the bright spot here, a full buffet with a huge range of food. One of the reception staff was also lovely and went out of her way to make us feel welcome. The room itself was a decent size, with clean facilities and comfortable bedding, but the Wi-Fi barely worked in the room and kept cutting out. There was none at the pool. The air conditioning was another problem. It was over 40 degrees during our stay, and the unit shut itself off after an hour. We tried every button but couldn't change that setting, so we kept waking up overheated and barely slept. We were there on a busy holiday weekend when the hotel was full, and the pool mattered to us in that heat. It was on the top floor and looked as if it hadn't been maintained in many years. The spa wasn't working, the plastic was worn, there were no pool towels or seat cushions, and the whole area seemed abandoned. We usually avoid this chain because its hotels tend to be older and more traditional. These letdowns kept us from giving this one a higher rating.
