Muong Thanh Holiday Vung Tau Hotel

Our checkout left a very bad impression. We were charged 20,000 VND, about 1 USD, for a 500ml bottle of water we’d used. The receptionist said only 350ml bottles were complimentary. But the “photo evidence” they showed had two 350ml bottles in the fridge, while our family room for four had come with two 500ml bottles in the fridge and four more 500ml bottles by the minibar. It looked like the room had been set up or recorded incorrectly from the start. Instead of considering that possibility, the receptionist loudly questioned housekeeping over a walkie-talkie in front of us and seemed to suggest we’d taken or used things improperly. It felt like being accused over 20,000 VND. The money wasn’t the issue; the way they handled it was. For a hotel advertising itself as a 4-star luxury property, that lack of professionalism was disappointing. We’ve stayed in 2-3 star hotels where even missing slippers were discussed more respectfully, without making guests uncomfortable. There were other problems too. WiFi was very weak, so we relied on mobile data the whole stay. Our room on the 6th floor had no view, and the lobby was uncomfortable because its air conditioning wasn’t on. Breakfast cost about 12 USD per person and was basic, like what you’d expect at a 2-star hotel. The family room for four also seemed stocked for only two, including toiletries, minibar items, and complimentary water. The bellboy was friendly and helpful, and the location was convenient, within walking distance of the beach and convenience stores. Still, the experience didn’t live up to the 4-star label. Service and professionalism matter more than branding, and this hotel fell short. We won’t return.
