Le Jardin Maoré

We stayed at Le Jardin Maore Lodge in Mayotte in May and really enjoyed it. Our Superior family room with Sea View was elegant, comfortable, and had all the amenities we needed. The staff and service were excellent, especially Ms. Delfin, who arranged our airport transfer, helped with our requests, and spoke to the Chef about a special dish. I do hope management adds Wi-Fi in the rooms soon. At the moment it’s only available at reception and the bar.

The Makis were a highlight for the kids, and the Baobab trees are amazing. We also loved the beach and the snorkeling, with turtles every day and a nice house reef. The beach is public, as it is in France, but nobody bothered us, and we liked not being in a tourist bubble. If you’re an experienced freediver, there’s even a wreck reachable at 17 m at low tide. Jardin Maoré has a wonderful location, a great lodge, and very friendly, helpful people. We spent a lovely time there in August 2021 and would happily return. The dive club was professional and made for a great experience. Thanks to Julian and his team. We did have to stay several extra days at the end after one daughter and my vaccinated wife got Covid, probably picked up in Paris. The hotel helped us exceptionally well through that difficult time. Thanks especially to english speaking receptionist Julie. The illness felt like a cold for us, but the isolation rules and not knowing when we’d be allowed to fly back were tough.

I recommend Jardin Maore. It’s a heavenly hotel set in a garden, with a beautiful beach and grounds. The food is good, and I’d recommend diving with their Lagon Maore nautical center. Laurence, the general manager, was passionate about the place, listened to customers, and was very available. The staff were helpful too.

Sitting on the bungalow porch, watching the sea while a Maki (type of Lemure) comes over, feels like paradise. The beach is beautiful, and there’s plenty of shade under the trees, so you don’t need an umbrella. This is an Eco Lodge, not a 5 Star Hotel in NY, and it’s a lovely place. It’s the only Hotel on Mayotte right on the beach. The bungalows are well kept and nicely designed. Dinner at the Htel was very good, with a choice of two tasty menus or á la carte.
