The Cavern

We spent 10 lovely days at the cavern just before Christmas, and I think it’s becoming our annual family gathering spot. There’s a special charm here, with a wide range of activities and wonderful food. Every Cavern staff member we met was friendly and helpful. Lawrence is cheerful and always has a kind word. I’m especially grateful to Megan, who made sure the older members of our group could join us at the breakfast boma. She went well beyond her duties, and we appreciated it so much. Keep doing what you’re doing, it makes for a fantastic, fun holiday.

There are walks every day, from easy routes to very difficult ones, so bring walking boots. The guides are well trained and know the veld extremely well, pointing out animals, trees, insects, and more. Food is appetising, with a wide choice at breakfast, lunch, and supper, plus two tea breaks. The Cavern has been family owned for three generations, and the family looks after the staff; they even built a school for the children. The staff speak fluent English as well as their own language. Manager Lawrence is efficient and friendly to both visitors and staff.

The mountain and forest views are gorgeous, and there are loads of activities. It’s a photographer’s and birder’s paradise. I also had one of the best massages I’ve ever had. Three superb meals a day, the friendliest staff, and Lawrence was so helpful. Musa tops! An incredible stay in one of the most beautiful places in RSA.

We loved the food and our hike up to the top dam during our four nights here just before Christmas. The kids club was great too, and cleverly placed beside the dining area so the kids can find you during dinner if they need to.
