I chose one star because there wasn’t a lower rating, and even that feels undeserved. We had to leave because the room smelled so strongly of cigarettes that it was overwhelming and impossible to stay in. It clearly hadn’t been properly cleaned or aired before we arrived, which is unacceptable for basic hygiene. I told the receptionist and hoped she’d find a solution, but she said she couldn’t help. No alternative was offered and no effort was made to sort it out. The room and the lack of staff support left us no choice but to go. The whole thing caused needless stress and inconvenience, and fell far short of expectations. I wouldn’t recommend staying here unless cleanliness and guest concerns are taken more seriously.

The owner only told us at check-in that swimming wasn’t allowed after 6pm. On Christmas Day, while we were still playing with the kids in the pool, she reminded us at 6pm that we had to get out. The next morning, at 8:50am, the lady kept knocking while we were still asleep. She said she’d woken us to tell us check-out was at 9am and that we’d pay R50 extra for every 30 minutes we stayed. She then went to her office, phoned twice, and sent the same message on WhatsApp, even though she’d already told us at 8:30am after waking us. This was the worst experience I’ve had at a guest lodge or any accommodation I’ve booked on booking.com.

The room lights had their switches outside the rooms, which felt odd, and we couldn’t find the TV remote. Still, we had a lovely night’s rest. The place was easy to find, and both the owner and staff were very friendly.

There was no water at the property when I arrived. I said I couldn’t stay somewhere without water and that I would cancel, but they’ve refused to refund me to this day. The worst experience. Never lodge here.

Our stay was brief and there’s nothing to complain about. The rooms were beautiful and clean, and we enjoyed the pool. Sarie, the hostess, was friendly and efficient. We’ll definitely be back.
