I was happy with everything on my first stay here. The room was spacious and clean, and the white linen standard matters to me. It's well set up for self-catering and has plenty of plug points. The aircon will definitely be essential in summer. There's very little to criticize at this price. If I had to nitpick, the kitchenette is a bit dated and a few tiles were chipped, but nothing significant. I can recommend Mai Guesthouse and will be back on my next trip to Bloemfontein. I wonder whether the new owners will improve things or make them worse.

The receptionist was warm and friendly, and the place felt secure, quiet, clean, and neat. I especially liked having self-catering facilities. The toilet was frustrating, though, because it didn't flush properly.

The soundproofing on the entrance door made a difference. My room was right by it, but I didn't hear anything. Staff were fantastic, and the security felt good enough to leave things in the car overnight. The room had a well-equipped kitchen, good WiFi, and a shower with strong water pressure. Check-in was welcoming, and the rooms were clean, with lovely linen and firm beds. If you prefer softer pillows, there are some in the cupboard. Hard to find this kind of value in Bloemfontein. I'll be back, and the linen really was lovely.

The only small thing I'd suggest is a private outside entrance. It would save having to go through reception or past other guests each time. Otherwise, it's definitely a place to stay. The cozy rooms are beautiful and very clean, and the spotless shower glass and tiles make that obvious. It has the basics to feel at home, from a stove and pots to dishes, plates, cups, and even spices.

The location is ideal. My room was lovely, clean, and spacious, with a queen-sized bed and a kitchenette stocked with everything needed.
