Beach House Hout Bay

The beach view was gorgeous, and we already want to return. We got a warm welcome and really enjoyed staying here. The staff were so friendly, the bedding was fresh, and there were cute gowns for you and your partner, plus a hairdryer for convenience. THANK YOU BEACH HOUSE GUEST HOUSE🤗🤗🤗🤗

The people serving breakfast and the man who seemed to handle every kind of job were impeccable, so helpful and genuinely nice. One of the women made the best scrambled eggs I've ever eaten, and I had eggs and toast on four of my five mornings. There were amazing muffins too. You have to ask for things like sauces and coffee, since neither was set out in the dining room. The room itself was pleasant, spacious, nicely coloured, and had what we needed, but no heater that really warmed it or aircon. The bathroom looked pretty, though the barn doors were a nuisance to open and close. The bed and pillows were comfortable. Our room, #8, looked onto a wall, and we could hear the neighbours talking even though they weren't loud. The parking area is very large. The claim that this is the only guest house on the beach in Hout Bay doesn't fit what we found. It's about 200m from the beach and ocean, down the street and along a very bumpy path. From the guest house you can't hear, see, or smell the sea. Flower-covered dunes aren't the beach, and sand alone doesn't make it a beach. Princess Street gets traffic constantly, from early morning until late at night. Hout Bay itself disappointed us. It didn't feel charming or village-like, and the area seemed impoverished and busy in an unpleasant way. Most locals we spoke with had little good to say about the place. In all our travels, this was one of the least friendly towns we've encountered.

I wouldn't recommend this guest house. The top floor rooms are separated by dry walls, so you can hear people next door talking and snoring. It's also set behind a big sand dune, with only a distant glimpse of the ocean. Princess Ave has heavy traffic that carries on late into the night.

We had a wonderful stay and I'll definitely come back. The room was lovely, breakfast was excellent, and the owners were wonderful. It was peaceful and quiet, just a couple of metres from the beach. Thanks, Silvie.
