Cactus House - Adults Only

The location is decent, around a kilometer or two from most attractions, and the honesty fridge with inexpensive beers and water was a cute touch. The rooms were average to good overall, and my initial room had a balcony with a cool view of Table Mountain and the park. But I couldn’t find a bedsheet, which felt pretty gross. The pool was dirty and poorly maintained. Apparently it’s clothing optional too, which wasn’t a selling point for me, though others may like that. The Wi-Fi was terrible, slow, and kept cutting out. Breakfast was meant to run from 8 to 10, but it still hadn’t been served by 9, making it hard to plan with limited time in the city. The meal itself was a microwaved croissant and a few pieces of lunch meat, with instant coffee. Don’t expect an elegant breakfast. The worst part was the owners entering my room, packing up my things, and moving me to another room without my knowledge or consent. Apparently I’d first been upgraded, which I didn’t know, and the owner yelled at me for not comparing the exact room details with my booking and realizing I’d be moved. It was a terrible experience, so I left for another hotel. I’d never stay here again. Buyer beware.

The host was relaxed and accommodating, and the atmosphere was great. One of the best gay guest houses in Cape Town.
