We bought a house in Kommetjie, but it was still occupied, so we wouldn’t be able to move in for two months. We booked two months at Canary Cottages on Flamingo Street in Kommetjie in the meantime. The elderly owners, Bruce and Glynis, seemed accommodating and insisted on a breakage deposit, which they said they’d refund after the two months if everything was in order. We left the place in better condition than we found it. Since then, we’ve tried repeatedly to get our deposit back. They’ve given us excuse after excuse and promised each day that it would be refunded. Now the owner has told me he will not return it and never intended to. I consider this theft, and I won’t let it go. Be careful where you book. They may seem like a nice old couple, but they definitely aren’t.

We had a lovely three-night stay at Canary Cottages in Kommetjie. The place was neat and had what we needed for a comfortable self-catering stay. Our hosts, Glynis and Bruce, were friendly and professional.

This wasn’t at all what we wanted. The pictures were misleading. Once we got there, we said we couldn’t stay because it was much too small and narrow for us. She then sent us an invoice for not staying, which was nasty to discover. Just choose somewhere else.
