Harpers House

The suite was excellent, and breakfast may have been the best we had during our time in South Africa. The location is great too: close to the Waterfront, within walking distance of a supermarket, and near the highway, so Tafelberg is about a 30-minute drive away.

After three weeks traveling around South Africa, this was unfortunately the worst hotel of the trip, despite costing more per night than the others. We were glad we only had to stay one night before our flight. The room was the biggest letdown. It looked like it hadn't been cleaned properly in a long time. There were odd stains all over the sofa, so sitting on it felt unpleasant, and a thick layer of dust had built up. The coffee machine still had used capsules inside, already moldy, and the window was filthy, as if it hadn't been washed for years. The staff weren't friendly and spoke to us as though they were doing us a favor. Breakfast was average, edible but not tasty. The location is good, though the alley where the hotel sits felt unsafe. One helpful thing was that staff let us leave our luggage at reception after check-out until our evening flight. Otherwise, it was a very disappointing stay and not worth the price. I don't recommend this hotel.

The staff were nice and so was breakfast, and the location was good. It was quite noisy out on the street, though, and the area just outside the hotel didn't feel entirely safe. I wouldn't stay here as a light sleeper.

Harper's House made our time in Cape Town amazing. We got there a little early and they let us leave the car and luggage in their safe hands without any trouble. Since we were on honeymoon, they had decorated our bed, and the staff were incredibly kind. Breakfast is freshly made, and you choose what you'd like the day before. Such a good system.
