Hawksmoor House

The location itself is beautiful, but we left with a very unpleasant impression and felt deceived. On arrival, the toilet in our room was extremely dirty and didn’t work, which made it clear the room hadn’t been properly cleaned or checked. Brown, dirty water was also coming from the tap. The administrator said they were trying to fix things, but there would be no water that day. We had to find another hotel and move out without using the room at all. The administrator had told us we could get a refund through Booking because we needed to pay for another hotel, but when we asked, the hotel rejected the refund.

We expected an old manor house with charm and instead found a neglected hotel. It’s hard to believe it’s advertised as four-star, and it needs a lot of TLC to regain its former grandeur. Maintenance was clearly lacking: the windows wouldn’t open, the curtains were broken, the garden was unkempt, and the swimming pool was dirty and cluttered. Breakfast was sad and incomplete. The staff seemed untrained and didn’t know basic hospitality. Sadly, I can’t recommend this place.

DO NOT STAY THERE. The guesthouse is neglected and the rooms are in very bad shape. The bedsheets, floor, and bathroom were all filthy, as the pictures show. The pool water was so dirty you couldn’t see through it, and it seemed likely to be unsafe for swimming. To top it off, the Wi-Fi didn’t work in the rooms.

It has a lovely farm feel, like a hidden gem. They made our group of more than 30 women feel special and safe. Thank you!
