As I begin a year of local and overseas travel, Mauya is my first guesthouse, and I’d rate it 3/5 (6/10). I’m a retired Occupational Health Nurse, over 60, and now a traveler. I look for value, quality, and quiet, and my experience had a few sides to it. The BnB is clean, with Frankie and Shakiera doing the daily cleaning. It’s in Mabille Park, a quiet suburb just off van Riebeck street. I enjoyed walking around the area, and we often went for strolls. For a self-catering place, though, guests need enough useful equipment. The cutlery sets should be improved. Guests struggled to find spoons and knives, and the shortage affected the look and feel of the guesthouse too. Noise also needs attention. There should be notices in each room asking guests to be mindful and respectful of others. Mauya isn’t centrally located, and it should be described as being away from tourist attractions. Uber drivers often complained that it was too far out of their way. Calling it a tranquil home away from home or a city escape would set expectations better.

The room looked nothing like the pictures. There were flies all over and cockroaches inside. The bathroom had no windows, and it smelled damp and mouldy. The bedding was unclean and had an odd smell. I wouldn’t recommend staying here.

We had such a good time at Mauya bnb. I hosted my daughter’s sweet sixteen party, and the girls who stayed overnight were safe and enjoyed themselves. Thank you so much.

The friendly staff were very helpful, and the service was excellent. I felt safe, had peaceful privacy, and nobody disturbed me.

I booked only a short stay at Mauya BNB while moving to Cape Town, but ended up extending it until I found a permanent place. It made the transition so much easier, especially with my workplace just five minutes away and less mileage on my car. From the moment I arrived, the staff made me feel welcome and comfortable. They were friendly and approachable, handled any issues efficiently, and clearly cared about guests’ well-being. I’m late writing this, but I still remember the warmth and hospitality. I’m grateful for the stay and highly recommend Mauya BNB to anyone visiting Cape Town.
