Neo & ruks guest house

We booked for three nights and left after one because the conditions were unacceptable. There was no toilet paper or hot water, and the staff were unfriendly. I wouldn't recommend this guesthouse. After 10 pm, the front door is locked. To get out, you have to ask staff to unlock and open the main gate, which felt like a serious safety concern as well as a hassle. If zero stars were possible, that's what I'd give it. Don't waste your money.

The rooms are nice and spacious. The only issue is the wooden floor creaks, so walking in and out makes noise for the other people.

I'm writing on my brother's behalf. I can't review on Bookings.com without a reservation, but after what happened to his staff, and seeing he's Genius level 2 on Bokings.com, I'll never book at this establishment. He paid R15 400.00 upfront for accommodation from 22 November 2024 to 7 December 2024. On 30 November, he messaged me to say he'd taken his staff out of the guesthouse because of the room conditions and nighttime noise. They're construction workers based in Gauteng, in Cape Town to get a job done. They work hard and nonstop, getting up early and returning after 18h00. My brother Paul had also sent the guesthouse a message, with a picture included, and got a very poor response. They didn't try to listen to the client's complaints. Instead, they counter-attacked and accused his staff of being dirty and leaving the rooms filthy. He asked to be reimbursed for at least the remaining seven days, since he had to urgently book another guesthouse, which was expensive at that time of year. He received no response. His staff complained about dirty linen, bed bug bites, and noise at night, with people talking. Given all the movement in and out of the property overnight, they suspected that "other" types of business might be happening there. I looked up all the Neo & Rusk Guesthouse properties and found surprisingly high ratings on sites like Google and Bookings.com. But digging deeper, I found one and two star complaints going back to 2022 about the very same things my brother's staff reported. I've travelled a lot, in South Africa and abroad, and have had accommodation problems too. At other places, my complaints were dealt with promptly so I could be comfortable as a paying customer. The insults in the establishment's reply, telling me to open my own business and saying I can't read, showed me what kind of service a guest can expect. Thank you Neo & Ruks for your reply.

We chose not to stay overnight. While waiting for our Uber, we were told to leave because people aren't allowed to sit in the lobby. We spotted fleas on the table while we waited, so we were glad they asked us to go.
