Newkings Boutique Hotel

We arrived to check in around 6 pm after paying in full, but reception said the hotel had cancelled our booking at its own request. It took about 10 minutes of searching before they told us, and no explanation was given. We questioned it because we had already paid and asked to speak with the manager, who never came out. Staff said the hotel was overbooked, leaving us stranded in Cape Town. We later found out there was a mining conference in town, with more than 20,000 people staying there. It seemed Newkings had taken guests paying inflated rates and cancelled bookings like ours. Reception gave us no support, and we spent two hours looking for a room. We had no option but to pay 30,000 ZAR per night elsewhere. Other hotels were charging inflated prices at short notice, so Newkings' lack of consideration cost us 60,000 ZAR. I'm deeply disappointed. The owner and manager should be ashamed of how we were treated. I urge people not to book here, or they may regret it. In reply to the owner's response, unfortunately, it's not honest. On the day, reception staff showed me evidence that the hotel had cancelled my booking, not that I had cancelled it. The hotel still hasn't apologized or made a genuine effort to take responsibility or resolve the situation. The lack of accountability, transparency, and basic customer service reflects the below-standard service I experienced throughout. I stand by my original review.

I hadn't eaten at Zest in a couple of years, but the restaurant has kept up its high standard. The menu has plenty of good choices, and the dishes are delicious. Staff make you feel like royalty.

The rooms feel quite old, and this doesn't seem like a four-star hotel to me. The air conditioner is really old and so loud that it's almost impossible to sleep.

Tatenda, Mario & Stephanie took such good care of our whole travel group. The service was fantastic, and the views were stunning. It's also a convenient base for exploring the area. The owner was welcoming and pleasant, which made the stay feel personal. Having a supermarket, spa, IV Bar and 5star restaurant in the building made things easier and more enjoyable. Great spot for a getaway.
