The lodge has well-kept, quiet grounds and strong security. The swimming pool was a real relief in the hot weather, and breakfast was delicious, with friendly, accommodating service. I’d suggest this place for business conferences, fishing, or wedding venues.

It’s such a beautiful place, the kind where you end up taking photos of everything. The food was amazing, and honestly I’d return just to eat again. I didn’t stay overnight, so I can’t speak to the rooms, but if they’re as good as the food, I’m sure they’re doing just fine.

The sheets had stains, the toilet flusher was broken, and there wasn’t a toilet brush. All night, a security card sat outside our window watching things on his phone. Breakfast was the best part, and even that was average. Nowhere near four stars, and not worth 1.6k for two per night.

Ongegund Lodge was a memorable place to stay, and I’d happily recommend it to friends and family. Set among the beautiful Helderberg mountains, it offers a peaceful break from city life, with a handy base for exploring the Cape Winelands and easy access to Somerset West, Gordon's Bay, and nearby attractions. There’s also the option to relax by the pool or go hiking. The lodge combines a luxurious, modern feel with a homely atmosphere. Rooms are spacious, clean, and well maintained. The main building dates back to 1790 and has self-catering facilities. Staff were friendly and welcoming, providing excellent service without being intrusive. Breakfast was superb, with hot dishes, fresh fruit, and juices. I’ll definitely visit again.
