I stopped by to book a room for my parents, who were due to arrive the following week. It’s close to my house, but when I rang the bell, nobody even greeted me. I was judged by my skin colour and treated like a hawker. The first thing he said was, “You are selling and we don’t buy anything here.” I felt awful, especially since a friend who’d stayed there with family had recommended it. He wouldn’t even come near the gate to speak with me. I’ll never recommend this place to anyone. 😔

Angus was a terrific, accommodating host, and the guesthouse worked really well for our family of five. It’s about 30 minutes from Cape Town, the room fit us comfortably, and the beds were very comfortable. Breakfast came with our daily rate, freshly made to order each morning, which was delicious and one less thing to think about. We also had free parking on site and strong Wi-Fi. That mattered since we had a rental car and our phones were roaming in South Africa. I’d happily recommend Angus to families visiting Cape Town.

My in-laws stayed here during a visit, and we went over regularly. The place itself is lovely. But my wife, who is a mixed race American, interacted with Angus on social media about a BLM issue. He came across as aggressive and bigoted, and seemed to dismiss the real prejudice she and other Black people have faced. It was shocking to see someone who pretended to be kind and friendly to Black people in person share those views online. He has freedom of speech, but there are consequences too. I’m posting this review and vow never to set foot in Pentzanshaven again.
