Protea Hotel Fire & Ice by Marriott Cape Town

Getting around was easy from the hotel, and we could walk to three of the places we visited. We stayed in a beautiful executive room with a living room, kitchen table, two bedrooms, a small sitting area by the entrance, and a full-length mirror with stairs. The service was excellent from arrival to departure, and any request was handled within 10 minutes at most. A vegan friend was with us, and when we were arriving late or hurrying to another event, the chef made food for her two or three times to suit her restrictions. We checked out early but had a late-night flight. After we got back from our excursions, the hotel gave us a small room to shower and relax before the long journey. Staff were always polite when our Ubers or scheduled cars arrived, and helped us with our bags. The room, food, and service all made for an amazing stay. I got back from South Africa less than 24 hours ago and already wanted to write about it.

We had a wonderful stay and plan to return. Kayleigh was amazing at breakfast and dinner. Lee and Karl also helped us sort out the meal vouchers, and finally someone knew what they were doing. The receptionist who helped me on Saturday morning, the 24th, went the extra mile. I wish I’d caught her name, but she didn’t have a badge on. After midnight, when I wasn’t feeling well, Jumco, if I’m saying that right, came to my room to check whether I needed help. He was genuinely concerned. God bless you all.

One night was far too short, and the late-shift team made the stay especially good. The food was great and the staff were amazing. Jordan in the bar stood out: he made one of the best cocktails I’ve ever had, knows his way around the alcohol varieties used in different cocktails, and has a warm, welcoming personality. He’s a cool guy. At reception, Ariane was so helpful and friendly. She carried our luggage and took care of everything I needed, always with a smile. I asked for a pool towel, and it arrived in my room after I’d finished at the front desk. Next-level helpful. Olivia S was also welcoming and lovely to chat with. As a Marriott employee, I rate this property very highly. WELL DONE 🥳🥳

The room was spacious, had everything we needed, and came with a fantastic view. My husband and I were there for our first anniversary, and we appreciated finding treats and sparkling wine from the hotel. Still, I’m not sure I’d return. The area right around the hotel was dirty and unwelcoming. We also had to pay R120 per day to park in the hotel parkade, despite being guests. The restaurant and room-service menus were quite limited, with no pizza or smaller portions. Sometimes you don’t want a fat burger or a full, rich meal. After our first night, our coffee pods weren’t replaced during room service. We called reception twice over the next hour to ask for two, but they never arrived.
