The renovations were almost impossible to ignore. Daytime jackhammers and hammer drills were deafening, so we couldn't use the room or sleep during the day. There were apology signs around the hotel, but no compensation, and at checkout we were charged for two bottles of water. It also took a whole week to get the three items of clothing we had left in the cupboard sent to our departure hotel in Johannesburg. They only just made it. We'd told them our arrival time well in advance and arrived as advised, but nobody came to open the locked door despite us repeatedly ringing the bell. Our trusted driver had to call for us. My Australian provider had no mobile coverage there, only in Johannesburg. The room looked nice when we were shown in, but the air conditioning wasn't on and wouldn't work. I had to get the staff member back to fix it after 10 pm. We'd travelled for over 16 hours and needed to sleep. The A/C only worked once we unplugged the bedside lamp to use the single GPO. The lampshade on the other side of the bed fell off when touched, and was held together with tape. Given the price and location, I expected more. Over four nights, the experience didn't even feel like three-star quality.

The room was huge, with a wraparound terrace and lovely decor. It is a little old, though I understand renovations are underway. The views from my room were spectacular, and the location was incredible. Stanley, Michael, the chef, and everyone else were kind and helpful. I had a wonderful stay at Royal Boutique Hotel and would definitely return.

The rooms are beautifully and tastefully decorated, and the views are great. It's a gorgeous spot, and the delicious breakfast was a lovely way to start the day.

Breakfast was a real highlight, with a huge selection of fresh fruit, fresh pastries, and tasty, nicely presented hot dishes. The breakfast wrap was particularly good, and the service was great. The pool was small but pleasant and very clean, while the terrace and bar area had a gorgeous view. We'd been a bit unsure after reading earlier reviews, but I'm glad we chose Royal Boutique Hotel and would recommend it. The location is excellent, about a five-minute walk from the seafront, bars, and restaurants, and the free hotel parking was a big bonus. The friendly, engaging receptionist upgraded us to a sea view room. It was fairly compact but comfortable and well appointed. The bedding and towels weren't luxurious, but everything was clean and we had no complaints. The minibar, coffee machine, hairdryer, and AC were all well stocked or provided. Breakfast may have been the best of our three-week trip around South Africa.
