Stoked Backpackers

There’s a nice sea view from the upstairs balcony, and the place is cozy and suitable for a small budget. The bathroom has both hot and cold water. The one small drawback is the noise when the train pulls into Muizenberg Station.

The balcony views are exquisite, with the sun rising straight over the ocean. The cafe downstairs serves healthy vegetarian food, and the staff are really friendly and helpful. This is a high-class backpackers, with beds much better than those at most places of that kind, as well as private rooms.

I’m still feeling nostalgic after spending just one night at this awfully great Backpackers. A friend and I had known each other for years and met up over the weekend. After such a lovely day together, it would’ve been a shame to part, so we happened to stop by Stoked Backpackers and asked Receptionist 'Mimi' about a room. We were surprised by the good prices for the quality. Before booking, we were shown around the different spaces, then reserved a spot in the 5 bedroom space. The beds were really comfortable, there was a kitchen area for us, and the toilet facilities were close by. The view over Muizenberg beach was phenomenal. The other guests were quite friendly and spoke well of the place compared with other backpackers. I’d definitely recommend it for spontaneous stays. My only concern was that there wasn’t a safe place available for our belongings. Apart from that, it was superb.

The veranda was the highlight for me, with its incredible sea and mountain views and a great spot to watch the sunrise. Welcome to the blue giant of Muizenburg. There’s a fun vibe here, with both private and dorm rooms, and a cafe where people can meet for coffee. It’s ideal for a surf trip, right by the beach, with bars, cafes, and surf shops less than a two-minute walk away. I stayed in the 7 bed dorm. It was clean and in good condition, had a sea view and an en-suite bathroom. One bed was on a mezzanine, which felt almost like having a room of its own. There are several shared spaces, from the ground-floor cafe to a sand garden with sun loungers, and then that open veranda. Reception can rent you a towel and help book tours around the local area.
