The Cape Bali

The view is amazing and the beds were very comfortable, but that didn’t make the stay worth the ick factor or high price. The house felt neglected and uncomfortable. Mould in the bedrooms and bathrooms smelled so strongly we had to cover the areas with pillows to sleep. The drains smelled bad too, pantry shelves were coming loose, blinds were broken, and outdoor bulbs hadn’t been replaced. The security gate didn’t work properly, and during loadshedding the alarm beeped through the night at 2am and 4am, every night. There was broken glass outside and by the pool, the barbeque was rusty and dirty, and the pans were rusty with their tefl coating peeling off. Carol-Anne was helpful when she let us drop our bags before check-in, and staff were friendly. But the cleaners spent much of their time on their phones and used the washing room for their own clothes and laundry from previous guests, including bedding and towela, so we had to wait to use the machines. We told Carol-Anne about the problems, and she said the owners knew. We also saw the property was for sale, so I assume the neglect will continue until it sells. It may once have been a great place, but it needs a lot of maintenance.

I haven't stayed here yet, but Carol-Ann made a great impression while I was arranging a team offsite. I had some unusual requests, and she was so accommodating, friendly, and helpful. When COVID made the plans uncertain and I had to cancel, she stayed understanding and helpful throughout. I’ll make sure to visit in a few months. What an amazing customer experience!

We’ve been waiting more than three weeks for our deposit of over 500eur to be returned, despite sending several friendly reminders. Carol, the manager, keeps putting off the transfer from one week to the next, and sometimes there’s no response at all. It honestly feels like fraud, and I agree with the comments about management being disrespectful and really bad at times. We’ll contact booking.com now and involve my lawyers if needed. I can’t recommend the place if you value your money. Next step is a lawyer.

The photos looked great, and it may well be a nice place. I’ll never find out, since they cancelled our reservation at the last minute because they could rent the property to another group for longer. SAD!!!
