The Hyde All-Suite Hotel

The ambiance and views are lovely, and the place feels neat and comfortable. Our waitress was friendly and helpful. The food, though, was a letdown for our 1st year anniversary. At Jack @Skye the sharing starter had just 6 prawns, and my husband’s steak and chips looked like a kiddies’ portion, with about 8 fries and a very small piece of steak. My “Seafood Pasta” was a full bowl, but only had 3 mussels and 3 prawns. There was also curly hair in the caramel sauce on my dessert and fine hairs on the cheesecake. I told the waitress, who took it away and brought back the same cheesecake on a different plate with fresh caramel sauce. I raised it again, but eventually let it go and left. The portions definitely didn’t feel worth the price, and the ambiance was the only great part of the visit. PS. You can see the hair on my plate.

The rooftop pool was enjoyable, though I wish there’d been a private relaxation area for hotel guests instead of sharing it with visitors going to Jack@Skye. Smoking areas were limited too, so sometimes I had to trek to the rooftop or outside the hotel. Housekeeping was inconsistent during my month at The Hyde. On several days the room wasn’t cleaned properly, dishes were left dirty and glasses foamed when rinsed, so I sometimes skipped service when I didn’t need fresh bedding. Portia was a huge help when I needed to pack and switch rooms, and kept me calm through an overwhelming moment. What really made the stay was how kind and helpful everyone was. Kiki was always there when I needed a hand with facilities or some manpower. At the front desk, Lucia, Candice, Aphiwe and Sean made each day easier with their friendly, helpful attitude, and Sherman kept things running with care. Kuda, Victor and Tiaan checked in often and were quick to sort out anything that felt off. When the WiFi acted up, the staff found alternatives so I could stay connected. Wellington, Shumba and Christina at Jack@Skye were welcoming and professional, which kept bringing me back to the restaurant. Chef Wonderful’s food, especially the seafood pasta, was scrumptious. Thanks to everyone at The Hyde for making my long stay memorable.

The spa charged a lot for a poor, unprofessional experience. My partner and I booked an hour-long couples massage at Essential Spa, but the massage lasted only 45 minutes, which we checked before and after. The masseuses seemed untrained and didn’t appear to know much about physiotherapy. It was hard to relax. They whispered and giggled to each other through much of the massage, there was no music, and we could hear kitchen staff shouting and plates banging. The doors to our room kept being opened from both sides while the massage was underway. Even the reception space felt extremely cramped, with four or five employees in a tiny area.

The service was outstanding, and the welcoming atmosphere made my stay at The Hyde Hotel feel like being at home. My room was stylish and comfortable, too. I had a great time there.
