Villa Andrea

I’ve just returned to The Netherlands after a week at Villa Andrea in Cape Town. The place has a real sense of care about it, and Hilde and Ferdi clearly take pride in making everyone feel at ease. The staff have been there a long time, some for as many as 18 years, which tells me the owners must be great to work with. My room was clean and spacious, and breakfast in the garden behind the house was superb. What a wonderful place.

I was very ill during the three months I lived at Villa Andrea, but after moving out I recovered. In my view, the property is badly maintained and has hidden toxic mould. I say the owners knew how serious it was and what health risks it posed to tenants. Instead of treating the mould, I believe the owner used an unqualified electrician to provide a fake mould certificate so they could keep my deposit and continue renting to unsuspecting tenants. It feels like a scam. I offered to pay for an independent, accredited inspector to investigate with scientific mould testing, since INSPECTO, the electric company, obviously isn’t qualified to do that. They said they “weren't ready” for an independent scientific inspection. How can a “four-star” guesthouse that says it has no mould not be ready for one? Definitely not a four-star guesthouse, in my experience. The place is rotting and poorly maintained.

Breakfast was fantastic, and the hotel was in a perfect location. The hosts were helpful and very friendly, and we felt welcome and comfortable the whole time. We spent four nights at Villa Andrea and would happily return. We highly recommend it.
